At the time my wife and I had got engaged we were both Deputies in the same department. In fact, we were on the same shift.Once the department learned we were dating (prior to any seriousness of the relationship), we had both requested transfers to another shift...that backfired on us and rather than supporting a relationship between two adults, we were shunned and many attempts were made to break up our relationship.
I was then terminated from the department a short time after our engagement based on a statement made to my shift Lt. from my ex-girlfriend (the same ex-girlfriend who told me that if I ever got involved woth someone other than her she would "have my job"). I was never questioned about the alleged statement, nor was an I.A. investigation ever conducted.
My wife and I have been happily married for almost 2 years now and have a beautiful daughter.
Although neither of us are currently working in law enforcement, are both in the process of applying at different departments within the state that we live.
If you're wondering why it has taken us almost 2 years to get back into law enforcement:
-We had moved states shortly after my termination and needed to certify in the state we now reside.
-In my wife's case she was pregnant shortly after our move and could not endure the rigors of the states physical fitness qualifications.
-As for me I was still upset over the way I felt I was treated at the time, and went into another profession.(Besides who's going to hire a Cop that has already been fired from another agency?)
I am wondering if anyone can give me some advice on how I should approach this subject when asked (1)On an application. and (2)At an interview.
According to all of the documentation that I received at the time of my termination no explaination was given for it on my "pink slip." however I don't want to leave it at that since it implies that I may have something to hide.
I have received, after some time, a Disciplinary Report that was written after I was terminated that outlined my ex's statement.
Thank yor all for your help.
