I am not a police officer, but I do own a Glock 17 and it definitely isn't a gun you'd want near anyone who doesn't know anything about guns and especially the Glock itself. The fact that there is no exterior safety makes it a gun, even though I keep it locked up, I personally wouldn't want in my home if I had small children or even adults around that were not well versed on the Glock. Pooky P.S. As far as it going off when thrown or dropped, I can't comment on that, as I have never dropped or thrown mine :o/

As a past Concealed Handgun Instructor for the State of Texas, and a Warrants Officer for the Bexar County Sheriffs Office, I can attest to the reliability and durability of the Glock pistol. As a demonstration to my students at the range, I would leave my Crown Vic parked on top of my Glock, magazine full, chamber empty, for the course of our range time. At the end of our range time I would retrieve my Glock, chamber a round, and proceed to engage the target. Having performed this drill at least 40 or so times, I have full faith in the Glock. P.S. - this is my own personal weapon, and the one I carry off duty as well!!! Pooky makes a very valid point, the Glock IS NOT a sidearm for those not well versed in the handeling of handguns, and ESPECIALLY for those unfamiliar with weapons of any type.
